Calcified Trachea

About work: Ink on paper with Photoshop editing. Medical illustration for publication on a case report of performing tracheostomy on a calcified trachea. The case is very interesting. A man with prior thalidomide exposure required acute tracheostomy. However, his trachea was abnormal – the cartilage was calcified, hard like bone. Entering the trachea required the use of osteotome. Rangeur and rasp were used to smooth the jagged edges.
